Terminologies

Data:

Elementarily, the computer data is based on ones and zeros referred to as binary data. Computer data is information digitally created, processed, saved and stored by a computer. It is usually in binary format. The PC CPU maybe used in processing the data. Data could be inform of MP3, images, video, application software etc. such computer information (data) are stored in the hard drive or other storage media in files and folders. The information saved and stored digitally does not lose either its quality or quantity and could be transferred to different locations.

Data transfer rate:

Data transfer rate refers to the speed at which data is move from a location to the other in a unit system or across computer network. This is measured in bits per a second (bps). This is not to be confused with bytes per a second. Note that 8 bits makes a byte. If for instance a USB 2.0 transfers 480 Mbps, and since 8 bits are in byte, a total of 60 MB of data will be transferred per a second.
